What does it mean to me to be a Christian
I'm a born-again Christian, a believer. It's a most important thing to me. I'd like to tell you a little about what it means to me.
First of all, being a Christian means that I believe God exist, I believe Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, I believe the Bible is true, I believe I will get to heaven etc. All of this is important, but there's also the experience part that brings all this into practise.
To believe in God opens a whole new content to life. Knowing and feeling that God loves me brings a sense of security: I'm important, and cared for, and life has a purpose.
This is a new dimension. The meaning of happiness and the meaning of life are no longer only about family-work-friends-hobbies but it's deeper. I can find my place within my fellowmen and God's plans.
Being a Christian means also that God is taking care of my everyday life. It's wonderful to feel that God is personally with me every moment, leading me and answering prayers. It means a continuous interaction with God.
So, being a Christian is the center of my life. It gives the basic sense of security.
Nowadays one of the essential thing is to work at the church. As an addition to various practical jobs I have the privilege to do Bible teaching. I write an article to our church's magazine every month.
How I became a Christian
I have grown up in a Christian home. Now somebody would say that faith comes as a inheritance or a brainwash from parents. However, this wasn't the case. I wasn't interested in spiritual things at all. I spent my time with school and hobbies.
Something did happen in the mid-1990s. Nobody preached to me that I'd get to hell if I don't change. But I just became very interested in Christian things. I started to read the Bible daily, and slowly but surely I realized that I could really become a Christian. August 1997, I joined the local Pentecostal church. There I've had the privilege to grow and learn more and more.
After some time it has been easy to tell that my conversion wasn't of my personality or any outward efforts. I also think that with the information and knowledge I had back then I would've been unable to change my attitude on my own. Jesus simply called me and saved me.
He can do the same to you.
